apron feeder components

Apron feeders are among Continental's offerings.

More than just standard conveyors are available from Continental Conveyor Ltd.; the company manufactures a wide range of material-handling solutions. One example is a line of heavy-duty apron feeders. These are rugged pieces of equipment, designed and constructed for challenging work conditions and intended for feeding and moving heavy, lumpy, or abrasive materials in harsh environments. Continental produces these robust systems with a variety of apron feeder components that can tackle all kinds of challenging applications.

The three main features

There are three main features of Continental apron feeders:

  • Cast manganese or fabricated pans – As a work-hardening steel alloy, cast manganese is ideal for high-impact, abrasive applications. Impact ribs cast into the pan longitudinally and blended with the impact rail on the feeder structure reduce material leaks between pans. Raised pads provide a smooth mounting surface for the chain when cast laterally into the pans. For most average conveying and feeding applications that involve no high impact or abrasion, Continental recommends double-beaded overlapping formed steel pans, made from mild steel or abrasion-resistant plate. These are also suited for tasks with a moderate level of impact when they are combined with an impact rail to limit deflection.
  • Chains and rollers – Crawler tractor chains have a rugged design that makes them perfect for the severe environments in which apron feeders operate. Their varying standard pitches and tensile strength ratings allow a suitable selection for all application lengths and widths. Carrying and return rollers have hardened wheels and pins for long wear life, with a large lubricant reservoir that is factory-sealed for life.
  • Sprockets and traction wheels – These apron feeder components have segmental runs that are machined and jig-drilled to fit on the mounting hubs keyed to the shafts. Sprocket segments can be easily removed for replacement. The segments are reversible for double life.

There is also a wide range of mechanical and structural apron feeder components on top of these main features: drive sprockets, pillow block bearings, feeder drives on the mechanical side, and inlet chutes and cross members for structure.
