belt-conveyor idler

Belt-conveyor idlers are available from Continental.

With nearly 60 years in the business of designing and building high-end material-handling solutions, Continental Conveyor Ltd. offers a broad product selection: conveyor systems, feeders, bucket elevators, and conveyor components, including two types of belt-conveyor idler. These units are constructed to facilitate and endure constant operation while handling heavy abrasive materials and high capacities. These idlers come in a variety of models, with belt widths from 45 to 152 centimetres.

Swaged to perfect concentricity

The company supplies two series of belt-conveyor idlers: Series 25000, available in three designs, and Series 30000. The later units are recommended for heavy materials with which the belt width limits the lump size. Series 30000 includes variations like flat belt carrying rubber cushion, picking roll, training idlers, and variable troughing idlers, plus return belt idlers in rubber tread, beater, and training models.

Each Series 30000 belt-conveyor idler is available with end rolls that can furnish it while inclined at 20-, 35-, or 45-degree angles, depending on material volume. Continental fits rolls of five or six inches with precision ball bearings. Also available are a separate cartridge-type contact and labyrinth grease seal that provide triple bearing protection with neoprene contact members and grease-filled clearances.

This series has counter-bored outer shells and stamped end discs that are swaged to perfect concentricity and welded continuously to create airtight concentric units. Continental staff fill the stamping cavity of every belt-conveyor idler with grease before assembling it, and the unit’s large diameter allows the grease to move easily to the bearings. The idler offers a lengthy operational lifespan because of this grease reservoir.

Every one of these idlers has a through shaft that measures two centimetres in diameter and has been machined at both ends. The bearings are all factory-adjusted by press-fitting the cartridge seals and bearings into the roll end discs. Among the other important features of these idlers:

  • heavy gauge steel rolls that are checked for smooth operation
  • non-clogging centre brackets that are die-formed to close tolerances
  • non-jamming end brackets for supporting heavy loads
  • self-cleaning inverted angle cross members
