The "Snap" from Rinspeed, which relies on HARTING's Fast Charging technology

As a global leader in the connector industry that develops and manufactures world-class solutions for a number of sectors, the HARTING Technology Group always aims for innovation – both in its own products and in others that use its technological advances.

This week, the four-day Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has been showcasing one new cutting-edge product that relies on HARTING innovation: the “Snap”, a self-driving electric car manufactured by Swiss producer Rinspeed AG.

Fast Charging technology

The “Snap” is the third product on which HARTING and Rinspeed have collaborated. What makes this electrically powered concept vehicle unique is its reliance on HARTING’s Fast Charging system, an environmentally friendly technology that enables users to charge the automobile rapidly and easily. The car also employs an elaborate mobility ecosystem. The “Snap” is composed of two separate main parts: the “skateboard”, a high-wear chassis that uses short-lived hardware and software; and the “pod”, a durable passenger safety cell that can be used for resting or camping when separated from the chassis and left stationary.

HARTING’s Hermes award-winning miniMICA technology was deployed in Rinspeed’s “Etos” vehicle to manage independent emission and condition monitoring. That vehicle was showcased at CES 2016.

The public has already been aware of HARTING’s Fast Charging technology for the past two years, following its debut at the Geneva Motor Show (GMS). Following its stint at CES, the “Snap” will move on to this year’s GMS, which takes place from March 8 to 18, and then on to the Hannover Messe in Hanover, Germany from April 23 to 27.

Rinspeed is not the only automobile manufacturer that relies on HARTING technology, of course. HARTING’s innovations are in demand from such major corporations as the VW Group and the BMW Group. VW is using an e-mobility solution and charging equipment from HARTING for various brands, while BMW trusts HARTING as a Tier 1 supplier.

As times change and vehicles become more technologically advanced and environmentally sound, the “Snap” is the latest evidence of the HARTING Technology Group’s importance to the global automotive sector.
