connector modularization

Modularization is a key trend in connectivity.

HARTING Canada is a leading manufacturer and supplier of connectivity solutions, backed by three-quarters of a century of experience and innovation on behalf of its parent company in Germany. As a major innovator, HARTING is always on top of current trends – such as form factor, miniaturization, intelligent solutions, and connector modularization.

A key reason for the rise in modular connectors these days is that they enable high flexibility – and make it easy.

A significant production workforce

Flexibility in this context refers to an object’s capability of changing or being modified easily and quickly. In manufacturing modular production floors, it is common to see production floors that change completely, in order to accommodate a specific application. Modular robots that businesses move daily or hourly for varying tasks are now a significant workforce on the production line.

The building blocks of modularization are easy customization. Within the idea of modularization, one should expect to see a robot moving for a specific task, a manufacturing floor changing daily or weekly to adapt to different jobs, and even the ability to customize components quickly within standard lead times.

In all of these scenarios, connectors make up a key component that enables modularization. Hard-wiring would make modular robots or production floors almost impossible, very impractical, and very costly. Hybrid connectors that are easy to customize and that use standard parts play a major role in enabling connector modularization, even at the component level.

Connector modularization is a major benefit of certain HARTING products. A key example is the Han-Modular series of connectors, which allow users to design connectors optimally to supply machinery equipment. Another example is the PushPull connector, a compact, outdoor-rated solution that provides a safe connection that resists shock and vibration. Third, the Han-Eco B line offers efficient pre-assembly of cable harnesses to save time and money.

Modularization is a basic requirement for integrated industry and for the changes that smart factories – a departure from one-time commissioning and rigid structures that involve stable plant configurations – are bringing about. Trust HARTING for top connectivity innovation.
