The L11 air compressor by CompAir

As a leading global manufacturer and supplier of industrial air compressors and similar equipment, CompAir knows that its skills and expertise go a long way. Its products are used for applications in a diverse range of industries, including general manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electronics, and the automotive sector.

Even the entertainment industry has benefited from CompAir’s line of industrial air compressors. One amusing example occurred in 2014, when a CompAir L11 compressor powered a robot rock trio at a music festival in London, England.

Millions of views on YouTube

The act featured three five-foot-tall automatons, all built out of scrap metal and controlled by electro-pneumatics. To get the band to play, the festival required a constant flow of compressed air throughout the performance.

Fortunately for the festival attendees, the show could go on – because of CompAir.

Distributor BCAS Limited supplied a CompAir L11 compressor for the act. This 11-kilowatt piece of equipment is a highly efficient machine that operates at low rotational speeds, which reduces energy costs. The unit also uses an IP55 motor, renowned for its operational reliability, making the compressor perfect for applications requiring constant airflow. Another advantage is an integrated design with oil separation, an oil filter, and a thermostatic bypass valve, lowering the required number of external hoses and components. Easy installation, low noise levels, and a size compact enough to fit through most doorways are additional benefits.

“Without compressed air, none of the robots in the band can perform, so it was vital that the compressor we used could provide a constant flow of air,” said Louisa O’Connor, the senior project manager with DesignScene, which produced a bespoke structure for the fest.

“BCAS Limited supplied and installed the compressor on time, with the CompAir unit performing reliably throughout,” added O’Connor, “ensuring the band could entertain the tens of thousands of fans who attended the three-day festival.”

The robot band was a hit – and continued to be. Some of its tracks have attracted more than six million views on YouTube.

Thanks to CompAir industrial air compressors, rock will never die.
