The HBM T40CB compact torque flange

HBM Test and Measurement products are available in Canada through Durham Instruments. This includes the recently launched T40CB compact torque flange. This torque transducer has an extremely short design and high vibration resistance, and it offers the proven HBM T40 electronics, which give the device a high level of precision.

The T40CB is available in two models, each with a central bore of a different size – 46½ by 54 millimetres (mm) in one and 37½ by 49 mm in the second one. The key benefit of this innovative device is the thru hole, which sets it apart from other flanges.

Top flexibility and user-friendliness

The instrument has an HBM accuracy class of 0.05, speed of up to 30,000 revolutions per minute, and nominal torque of 500 newton-metres. Other measuring ranges are available from Durham Instruments on request. The user may need to lead lubricant or coolant lines directly through the device, depending on the test concepts. Passing a shaft through the transducer when testing coaxial gears too is often required.

The smaller version of this flange offers the highest flexibility from a mounting viewpoint, as it can be installed with either threaded or stud bolt mounting. The larger variant has a large central bore diameter with relatively short overall length. The unit can be installed exclusively with threaded assembly because of the large central bore.

HBM recommends this powerful, exacting compact torque flange for high-speed applications that need a central bore. The T40CB provides excellent linearity, including hysteresis of only 0.03 per cent. Its radiometric method of measurement allows high stability and accuracy. Another major benefit is reliability, with high resistance to rotational acceleration and vibration, plus a digital transmission method, including error detection, that ensures interference-proof info transmission without any loss in accuracy. Even under tough, high-speed ambient conditions, users get dependable measurement data and robustness.

The instrument also offers the maximum flexibility and user-friendliness that is necessary to carry out application tests on automotive parts, such as coaxial transmissions or gearboxes. It includes digital and analog interfaces for easy integration into different test-bench systems, as well as different measuring ranges, depending on what the individual customer needs.
