The HBM T40CB compact torque flange

HBM Test and Measurement solutions are available to Canadian businesses from Durham Instruments, including the recently developed T40CB compact torque flange. This torque transducer has a short design and high vibration resistance, while offering a high level of precision with the proven HBM T40 electronics. This unit is available in two models, one with a central bore measuring 46½ by 54 millimetres (mm) and the other with a central bore measuring 37½ by 49 mm. The primary advantage that distinguishes this unique device from the competition’s similar products is its thru hole.

Radiometric method of measurement

The instrument has an HBM accuracy class of 0.05, speed of up to 30,000 revolutions per minute, and nominal torque of 500 newton-metres, with other measuring ranges available on request. The T40CB may require lubricant or coolant lines led directly through it, depending on the test concepts. The user may often need to pass a shaft through the transducer when testing coaxial gear.

The smaller model of this flange provides the highest flexibility from a mounting viewpoint, as users can install it with either threaded or stud bolt mounting. The larger version has a large central bore diameter with relatively short overall length. The device can be installed exclusively with threaded assembly, due to the large central bore.

This powerful, exacting compact torque flange is recommended for high-speed applications that require a central bore. It offers excellent linearity, including hysteresis of 0.03 per cent. Its radiometric method of measurement enables high accuracy and stability. Another key benefit is reliability, with high resistance to rotational acceleration and vibration, plus a digital transmission method, including error detection, which ensures interference-proof data transmission with no accuracy loss. This device from Durham Instruments provides reliable measurement information and robustness even in tough, high-speed ambient conditions.

The T40CB also products the maximum flexibility and user-friendliness required to conduct application tests on automotive parts like coaxial transmissions or gearboxes. It includes digital and analog interferences for simpler integration into different test-bench systems, plus varying measuring ranges, depending on the needs of the individual user.
