Kason and Marion offered a perfect solution.

Kason and Marion processing solutions are now available from Firing Industries Ltd., including mixers and sifters. These products came in handy for a major Canadian nutraceutical manufacturer, which resolved production challenges by using two different configurations of a Mason mixer and a Kason sifter, one for powders, one for tablets.

With this unique solution, the customer was rewarded with consistent results, high-quality output, and – most importantly – peace of mind.

Synergy between product lines

The nutraceutical company needed to meet precision requirements for high-quality, high-consistency product output, plus repeatability in every batch. Other challenges included compliance with strict safety standards, preservation of mixed particle sizes for a tablet pressing machine, high-efficiency performance, keeping maintenance costs down, and safe cleaning.

The manufacturer discovered mixing and sifting equipment by Advanced Materials Processing, a merger of Kason Corporation and Marion Process Solutions that offers comprehensive application solutions for various industries. The synergy between the two product lines was appealing to the nutraceutical company.

The customer selected Marion’s paddle blender for its sanitary finish, construction quality, door gasket design, and quick-clean features. This device was easy to clean, with easily removable O-ring gaskets, ergonomic openings, high-grit steel parts, and seamless welding. Later, the company added a Kason CENRTI-SIFTER centrifugal sifter to the processing line because one of the ingredients sometimes contained foreign materials left over from packaging. This sifter screened out contaminants before blending. The Kason engineering team designed and integrated the process for automated flow from the sifter to the mixer.

Adding two new machines made more sense than changing the existing system, since the customer was expanding its product line. A VIBROSCREEN vibratory sifter turned out to be more suitable to the application than a centrifugal sifter would have been, since the former’s gentle action did not cause segregation of the blend. A ribbon blender was selected to enable a thorough mix of blends with various ingredients added to the mix sequentially.
