Denso’s petrolatum “Colour Tape” protects pipes in extreme temperatures!

Not affected by water, salt, acid

Grey in colour and constructed out of a non-woven synthetic fabric carrier, Denso ColorTape is particularly recommended for above-ground applications in which appearance is important. Workers can easily apply this colour petrolatum tape in a broad spectrum of temperatures, ranging from deep winter freeze to sweltering summer heat of up to 60 degrees Celsius. Another benefit is that ColorTape is not affected by water, acid, salt, or soil organics.

Denso ColorTape conforms to irregular shapes and profiles, and users can apply it on marginally prepared surfaces and cold, wet surfaces, with no primer necessary. It also resists alkalies and ultraviolet rays, encapsulates lead paint, contains no solvents, and is ready for service immediately following application. The tape is compliant with the NACE RP0375-2006 and AWWA C217 standards.

To apply this colour petrolatum tape, Denso recommends first removing all loose scale, rust, and other foreign matter from the surfaces. This step must be performed according to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”, or with high-pressure water from 3,000 to 7,000 pounds per square inch. Then the user should wrap the ColorTape spirally, with an overlap no less than 25 millimetres (mm). A 55 per cent overlap works best in severely corrosive environments. During this wrapping stage, it is important to press out all air pockets and smooth all lap seams. Densyl Mastic or Profiling Mastic may also be required for large irregular surfaces.
