Mother Parkers uses an innovative colour-coded tubing system by Jacob.

Firing Industries is the expert in complex industrial process equipment. One of its premier offerings is industrial tubing by Jacob, a company specializing in safe, reliable conveyance of bulk materials. These tubing systems are leak-proof and flexible options for any manufacturing facility that needs to transport material.

Food processing is an industry in which Jacob industrial tubing plays a significant role. One company that uses Jacob products in a unique way is Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, a family-owned producer in Mississauga, Ont.

A colour-coded tubing system

Founded in 1912 and now the fourth-largest coffee roaster in North America, Mother Parkers owns a state-of-the-art facility in Fort Worth, TX, where coffee beans are roasted to produce the company’s unique brand of coffee. When the company opened the Texas facility in 2001, it needed a system to distribute coffee beans in a safe, efficient way. For the solution, Mother Parkers turned to Jacob.

In the system that Jacob provided, a turn-head first conveys raw beans through 16 outlets to Mother Parkers’ roasting equipment. Following roasting, a cable transports the beans to another 16-outlet turn-head that distributes them to silos for temporary storage. Finally, the beans go through tubes and valves made of 304 stainless steel towards the packaging equipment. Turn-head components are all constructed out of carbon steel.

What makes Mother Parkers’ tubing system stand out from most others is the colour coding. The first turn-head is painted green to show that it is conveying beans that are not roasted yet; the second turn-head system is reddish brown to signify roasted beans. This makes the roasting process much quicker and easier for the facility’s employees, who just have to look at the colour to know the status of the beans inside.

Jacob’s innovative system worked so well that the Fort Worth roasting facility was deemed Food Manufacturing Plant of The Year only months after its opening. It is still going strong today. With Firing Industries’ help, Jacob industrial tubing can make any plant more efficient and successful.
