CNC shaping

Ohio Broach provides CNC shaping services for its industrial clients.

To provide virtually any broaching services for clients, The Ohio Broach & Machine Company gives its personnel access to a wide variety of in-house machining equipment. This includes CNC shaping machines, which enable the Ohio Broach team to create almost any shape a client may request, no matter how irregular.

These four-axis, CNC-controlled machines have limitless movement, as well as specific tool design that allows the user to remove material precisely from parts to create many types of special forms.

Produces different kinds of parts

Ohio Broach’s CNC shaping machines can easily create different shapes and forms in blind holes and against shoulders. It is very well suited for small- to medium-size lots for just-in-time requirements, all achievable with little investment in special tools and fixturing.

These machines have been used to create many different kinds of parts, including electrical connector sleeves and steering drive components for pickup trucks. Ohio Broach has used two different models of CNC shaping equipment to broach these parts. For example, a single spindle shaper can be used to broach electrical connector sleeves, with a special high-speed shaping tool conformed to their different slots. The shaper head can move at 600 strokes per minute for a two-inch stroke and continue cutting into a part until it reaches a specific depth, before the part indexes into the next slot to be machined.

The company can also broach steering drive components with a CNC shaper model outfitted with a dual shaper head and dual servo-driven indexing tables; this machine can complete two parts simultaneously with a one-minute cycle for a six-splined internal shape. The machine’s dual shaper head can stroke up to 600 times per minute and carries a single-edge special-form carbide insert on each station. One servo motor drives the dual station index table. Two of these machines have been required for annual production of these components, due to the volume required by the client.
