Ohio Broach uses CNC machinery to form virtually any shape for customers.

The Ohio Broach & Machine Company has a broad lineup of in-house machinery to give its customers virtually any broaching service. One example is the company’s CNC machining equipment, which allows staff to form almost any shapes, even irregular ones, that a customer might request. This is a four-axis, CNC-controlled machine with limitless movement and specific tool design to enable the operator to remove material from parts with precision, for an endless range of forms.

Two models of CNC equipment

With its CNC shaping machine, the Ohio Broach crew easily makes different shapes and forms in blind holes and against shoulders. This capability is perfect for small-to-medium-sized lots for timely requirements, doable with minimal investment in special tools or fixturing.  Ohio Broach has used this CNC machining equipment to create an impressive variety of parts, from electrical connector sleeves to steering drive components for trucks.

And for companies that wish to do it themselves, Ohio Broach has supplied to customers two models of these machines to broach similar parts. A single-spindle shaper, for instance, is useful for broaching electrical connector sleeves, with a special high-speed shaping tool conformed to their different slots. The shaper head can move at 600 strokes a minute for a two-inch stroke and keep cutting into a part until it reaches a specific depth, before the part indexes into the next slot to be worked on.

In addition, a customer broached steering drive components with a CNC shaper model outfitted with a dual shaper head and dual servo-driven indexing tables. This machine can finish two parts at the same time, with a one-minute cycle for a six-splined internal shape. Its dual shaper head can stroke up to 600 times per minute and carries a single-edge, special-form carbide insert on each station. One servo motor drives the dual station index table. Ohio Broach supplied two of these machines to meet the annual production volume requested by the customer.
