CNC machining service

Ohio Broach uses a CNC machine for some services.

The Ohio Broach & Machine Company provides virtually every broaching process available to its customers with a wide range of in-house equipment, including a CNC machining service. With its CNC equipment, the company’s skilled team of personnel can form almost any shapes, even irregular ones, that a client may need.

For an endless range of forms, Ohio Broach relies on a four-axis, CNC-controlled machine with unlimited movement and specific tool design.

Material removal with precision

This CNC shaping machine allows operators to remove material from parts with precision. Ohio Broach can easily make different shapes and forms in blind holes and against shoulders in its CNC machining service. This ability is ideal for small-to-medium-sized lots for timely needs, with minimal investment in fixturing or special tools. The team has used its CNC equipment to make a broad variety of parts, like electrical connector sleeves and steering drive components for trucks.

Some customers want to do their own CNC broaching. For these, Ohio Broach offers two models of these equipment to broach similar parts. The company offers a single-spindle shaper for broaching electrical connector sleeves, for example, with a special high-speed shaping tool conformed to their different slots. The shaper head can move at 600 strokes per minute for a two-inch stroke and continue cutting into a part until it hits a certain depth, before the part indexes into the next slot to be broached.

One customer broached steering drive components using a CNC shaper machine with a dual shaper head and dual servo-driven indexing tables. This model can complete two parts at once, with a 60-second cycle for a six-splined internal shape. The dual shaper head can stroke up to 600 times per minute and carries a single-edge, special-form carbide insert on each station. One servo motor drives the dual station index table. To meet this customer’s desired annual production volume, Ohio Broach supplied two of these machines.
