industrial precision measurement devices

The late Jacques Chevrier founded Chevrier Instruments in Montreal in 1975.

Today, Chevrier Instruments is one of Canada’s major suppliers of industrial precision measurement devices. From thermometers and gauges to humidity instruments and hygrometers, Chevrier has a wide selection of devices for myriad applications. The company partners with a number of major manufacturers, from KIMO Canada to Bacharach, Fluke, and Rotronic to source quality instruments.

But Chevrier’s reputation did not emerge from a vacuum. It is the result of four decades of history of growth, expansion, and success.

Three generations of management

Chevrier Instruments has always been a family operation. It was founded by the late Jacques Chevrier, a resident of Pointe-Gatineau, Que. who struck out on the road as a sales representative after studying commerce at the University of Ottawa in the early 1950s. By the end of the ’60s, he had worked his way up to become the sole Quebec representative of Baker Instruments, an Ontario supplier of industrial precision measurement devices. Now based in Montreal, Jacques Chevrier met Pierre Ménard, a professor of instrumentation who went on to teach him about calibration and repair of these products.

With the help of Ménard and his wife, Madeleine, Jacques Chevrier founded his own distribution company in 1975. Incorporated three years later, the company became known as La Cie. J. Chevrier Instruments Inc. As the firm continued to grow, Jacques Chevrier employed his sons Denis and Pierre to repair manometers while they continued school. While they learned the trade, their younger brother Marc also joined the business after graduating from business school.

In late 2011, Chevrier Instruments hired Denis’ daughter Catherine, which meant that three generations of the Chevrier family now worked for the company. Jacques Chevrier passed away in 2015, but his family continues his work today: Marc Chevrier is now the company’s general manager, while Denis Chevrier serves as the technical director.

All this time, Chevrier Instruments’ top priority has been to provide industrial precision measurement devices, services, and technical support of high quality from cordial and skilled staff. Sound management and expertise have helped the company earn its solid reputation in this field.
