A new sense of mission

In March, when the Coronavirus crisis led to a global lockdown, CFS announced that it was switching its focus to manufacturing hospital foam components for mattresses, stretcher pads, and strips for face shields. This was in response to a spike in demand from clients in the healthcare industry. Due to an anticipated shortage of medical supplies, manufacturers had to start working extremely hard to meet this high demand.

Expecting an output increase of 50 per cent, the company converted its production lines and retained employees to keep up with orders for hospital foam components. This includes increases in production of hospital furniture and mattresses, as well as small foam components for use in manufacturing face masks. This change in focus has given the company a new sense of mission; as a supplier that is not always aware of where its products are going, CFS has felt a sense of pride in watching its wares follow a direct line to helping healthcare providers at an important time – especially as more customers have reached out to them for these components.

The healthcare sector was already a major customer base for CFS. The company designs polyurethane foam products, including sewn covers, specifically to help improve patient care in hospitals.
