The Carlo Gavazzi RK series of solid state relays

Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC) supplies industrial products in Canada from world-class manufacturers, such as Carlo Gavazzi. Renowned across North America for its innovative automation devices, Carlo Gavazzi produces the RK series of two-pole solid state relays, which are ideal for use in such major industries as food processing.

Easy to install and compact in size, the RK series is rife with great user advantages and unique features.

Designed to save space

These solid state relays are designed to save a lot of space. Two-pole relays are contained in only one housing, which measures a mere 45 millimetres wide. The RK series can be installed very quickly, and their back plates come with pre-attached thermal interfaces; this enables easy mounting onto panel chassis or to heat sinks. Certain models come with pluggable spring terminals that allow quick, simple wiring of control connections.

Each pole on these relays has LED indication to display the control status, which further increases the user-friendly aspects of the units. The thermal and mechanical stresses of the output chips are decreased through wire-bonding technology, and this allows a higher amount of operational cycles than other assembly technologies have, which results in a longer service life. Due to the integrated transil, users have less equipment downtime, which protects the output of every pole from excessive voltage.

Several models of these solid state relays are available from PIC. These devices can meet the requirements of various applications. For instance, the RKD2 design allows users to control every pole independently, and the RK2 design helps users control two poles simultaneously. Meanwhile, the RKC model provides control termination with a pitch connector of 2.54 millimetres (mm), while the RKP offers control termination through a 5.08-mm pitch plug connector.

The food and beverage conformance certifies these relays for 100,000 cycles, according to the UL508 standard. They are especially recommended for use in coffee machines and vending machines, and Carlo Gavazzi also deems them suitable for extrusion, thermoforming, and blow-moulding machines, in addition to electrical and soldering ovens, dryers, climatic chambers, air-handling units, and shrink tunnels.
