Daemar observed its 45th anniversary in 2018.

Daemar Inc. observed its 45th anniversary this year. That is four-and-a-half decades of supplying essential components for industry across Canada. Today, a variety of sectors rely on Daemar for the best manufacturing components – oil and gas, agriculture, forestry, construction, food processing, and even the green industry.

But Daemar did not start out as a major force in the nation’s industry. Like all success stories, the company has undergone a history of growth and expansion.

From generation to generation

The Daemar story began on Jan. 1, 1973. That was when a new distribution company was founded in Oakville, Ont. Under the name of Cartec, this supplier was launched with three product lines: Waldes retaining rings, Seeger metric rings, and Devan keysteel. As the 1970s went on, Cartec expanded its portfolio and began distributing Cleveland hardware, KMC stampings, Standard steel, GACO oil seals, and other manufacturing components.

Cartec had a breakthrough year in 1980, when it opened a sales and warehouse facility in Edmonton. Expansion continued in 1984, as the company launched another branch in the Vancouver area. That was the same year the company changed its name to Daemar – Distribution Engineering Marketing.

In 1986, Daemar was appointed as the exclusive Canadian distributor for Kalrez and Rotor Clip. The same year, it opened another sales and warehouse facility in Montreal. Within the next few years, the company was selected as the master distributor for Caplugs in Canada, while adding mechanical seals to its fluid-sealing line.

1996 was the year that Daemar went digital, launching its website. Four years later, the company opened its first American sales office and warehouse facility in Georgia, which marked the beginning of Daemar Inc. U.S.A. Other milestones: launching an online catalogue in 2010; adding disc springs to its product line in 2012, and doubling the sizes of its Edmonton and Montreal warehouses in 2007 and 2015 respectively.

And the company is still growing. Forty-five years on, Daemar has established itself as the ideal supplier for top manufacturing components. But it keeps in touch with its roots, with its headquarters remaining in Oakville.
