Tsubaki recently helped an Ontario automotive-parts maker with a better product.

Every top manufacturer knows that offering great products is just part of its success. Another factor is serving customers – working closely with them to find the best solution for every individual application. Tsubaki of Canada is no exception. Last year, the company helped an Ontario automotive-parts maker by recommending the perfect hybrid cable carrier for an overhead gantry crane, a solution that has since saved the customer thousands of dollars.

Downtime from breaking links

The auto-parts manufacturer was having difficulty with the overhead gantry crane because the previous installation was done with another company’s plastic cable carrier. This long carrier glided in on itself, and its length would cause the links to snap at the bend as the carrier travelled, which resulted in the cables popping out of the carrier. So the links kept breaking every few weeks, and this led to serious downtime and application problems.

A better solution was needed, and quickly. So the company turned to Tsubaki for the answer.

The Tsubaki team inspected the issue and then recommended the Varitrak MC cable carrier. Available from KabelSchlepp, a member of the Tsubaki Group, this carrier has a locking bolt mechanism that makes the installation more rigid. Varitrak MC carrier systems are designed to glide on themselves in a guide channel whenever application travel exceeds the self-supporting length of the carrier. Other key benefits of this multi-variable cable carrier include minimized hinge wear, solid plate construction, easy fitting due to the locking bolts, and replaceable glide shoes.

Tsubaki personnel also installed aluminum frame stays to add extra strength in preventing the cables from popping out. In addition, they recommended the addition of RKR links that would give the system some allowance to reverse backwards, therefore preventing the hybrid cable carrier from breakage.

The customer gave this hybrid cable carrier a chance, and the results were immediately apparent. The application has continued to run smoothly, with no issues, for more than eight months now – and the customer has saved $4,578.14 to date. This is one of many examples of how Tsubaki has helped customers.
