brushless servo motors

Wainbee Limited supplies Parker’s SMH series of brushless servo motors.

For industrial equipment that offers the peak of efficient design, wise manufacturers always put their trust in Wainbee Limited. A key example is Parker’s SMH series of brushless servo motors. These synchronous motors are designed to blend state-of-the-art technology with extremely high performance. Among their great advantages are a high number of feedback options, customized windings and voltages, higher inertia option, multiple connection options, and their innovative “Salient Pole” technology.

High accelerations and overloads

The SMH series is a versatile group of brushless servo motors that work well in many applications and industries. Examples include food processing, packaging, material forming, material handling, factory automation, life sciences, printing, textile machines, robots, servo hydraulic pumps, and the automotive sector. Parker particularly recommends these motors for applications that require very high dynamic performance and very low inertias.

“Salient Pole” technology features Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets that are uniquely encapsulated to the motor shaft. This enables SMH motors to achieve very high accelerations and withstand high overloads, with no risk of demagnetization or detachment of these magnets. As the motor dimensions are significantly reduced, there are considerable benefits in terms of specific torque and dynamic performance. The specific torque in this series is about 30 per cent higher than that of traditional-technology brushless servo motors, while the rotor inertias are very low, so the motors are very compatible with highly dynamic applications.

Other highlights and advantages of these Parker motors from Wainbee:

  • availability in 60-, 82-, 100-, 115-, 142-, and 170-millimetre frame sizes;
  • speeds of up to 7,500 min-1;
  • continuous stall torques from 0.55 to 60 Newton metres;
  • higher inertia and holding-brake options available;
  • feedback options of resolver, incremental, and single/multi-turn absolute encoder; and
  • high degree of flexibility, due to broad variety of standard options.

Each unit in the SMH series comes with eight poles, a flange with smooth holes for mounting, and a voltage supply of 80/230/400 VAC. Cooling is accomplished through natural ventilation, and connection options include rotatable connectors, flying cables, and a terminal box. The series is UL- and CE-approved.
