The Type 4326-A accelerometer by Brüel & Kjær

Durham Instruments partners with Brüel & Kjær to supply world-renowned measurement solutions. One example is the Type 4326-A and 4326-A-001 triaxial accelerometers. These are miniature, piezoelectric ThetaShear patented devices, each with three independent outputs for simultaneous high-level measurement in three mutually perpendicular directions and individually calibrated transducing elements.

Weighing 13 grams each, the Type 4326-A and 4326-A-001 are recommended for general-purpose, multi-axis vibration and shock measurement on low-mass structures and in confined spaces.

Optimum accuracy and reliability

These triaxial accelerometers may be treated as charge sources, and their sensitivity is expressed in terms of charge per unit acceleration. The ThetaShear design has a slotted cylindrical stanchion holding a central seismic mass, flanked by two piezoelectric plates. This assembly is clamped rigidly by the cover; no bonding agent, aside from molecular adhesion, is necessary to hold it together, ensuring optimum accuracy and reliability. This design blends high measurement stability, excellent sensitivity-to-weight ratio, and low sensitivity to extraneous environmental effects.

Another feature of the ThetaShear principle: the transverse resonance frequency is always outside the ten per cent frequency limit, ensuring minimal interference from orthogonal vibration components in the useful frequency range. The design offers high immunity to base strains, magnetic sensitivity, and acoustic fields.

Brüel & Kjær has put special effort into making the mounting extremely flexible. Users can apply Mounting Clips UA-1408, UA-1473, and UA-1474 for quick, easy mounting, and five of the six surfaces are usable for mounting with adhesive cement or mounting wax. It is possible to avoid ground loop noise by electrically insulating the sensing elements from the common body. Both types of triaxial accelerometers have this electrical insulation with respect to signal ground, with resistance of more than ten megawatts.

Other specifications for these instruments: temperature range from -55 to 175 degrees Celsius; maximum operational level and shock level (peak) both at three kilograms; and electrical connector from ten to 32 UNF.

These versatile devices work in many industries. Durham Instruments deems them suitable for aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, and transportation.
