The B&K 2245 sound-level meter

Durham Instruments distributes a broad variety of measurement solutions by Brüel & Kjær to businesses across Canada. A key example is its line of B&K 2245 sound-level meters. Each is a robust, waterproof, dust-resistant tool, ideal for use in work environments that involve grime, grit, or unpleasant weather. Users easily connect this instrument to a Smartphone through Wi-Fi, which allows operation from any convenient location away from the sound field with an app control interface.

Versatile devices for many applications

These sound-level meters are versatile devices that work in many applications in various sectors, and they comply with the IP55 standard. Durham Instruments recommends these products for use in general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, the medical industry, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

The instrument comes with the Noise Partner app already installed – an app for simple broadband measurements, general-purpose sound-pressure-level measurements, or basic occupational, product, or environmental noise measurements. Minimal training is required for Noise Partner. The user can control the app’s capabilities wirelessly and embed images, text or voice notes, and videos with measurements after downloading it to a phone. Noise Partner allows transference of data to PCs, either wirelessly or with a supplied USB cable.

The B&K 2245 enhances several scenarios and applications. Examples include checking sound-pressure levels (to ensure that fire alarms meet regulations, for instance), broadband measurements that require instruments that comply with specific standards, and simple product testing to confirm other safety compliance. Other key features of these sound-level meters:

  • single measurement range from 15.2 to 140 decibels from typical noise floor to maximum level, A-weighted;
  • integrated GPS for time and location;
  • colour LDC with a bright, clean layout, with important information displayed with a clear indication of measurement status with colour header;
  • measurement-status light ring, visible from any angle;
  • built-in Li-Ion battery for more than 14 hours of operation;
  • sixteen gigabytes of built-in storage for measurement and annotation; and
  • integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy for connection to mobile and PC apps.
