sound-level meter

The B&K 2245 works with mobile phones and PCs.

Durham Instruments supplies many innovative measurement tools by Brüel & Kjær, like the B&K 2245 sound-level meter. This is a robust, waterproof, dust-resistant instrument that complies with the IP55 standard, and workers can use it in the field when grit, grime, or poor weather is a factor. By connecting it to a mobile phone via Wi-Fi, the user can operate it from a more convenient location away from the sound field, with a mobile-app control interface.

Transfer data to phones, PCs

This sound-level meter comes with the Noise Partner app already installed. Users need minimal training to use this app, which is ideal for simple broadband measurements, general-purpose sound-pressure-level measurements, or basic occupational, product, and environmental noise measurements. After the user downloads Noise Partner to a phone, he or she can control its capabilities wirelessly, embedding pictures, text and voice notes, and videos with measurements. With Noise Partner software, data can also be transferred to PCs, either wirelessly or with the supplied USB cable.

Several applications and scenarios are enhanced with the B&K 2245. Examples include checking sound-pressure levels (to make sure that fire-alarm systems meet regulations, for instance), broadband measurements that need instrumentation compliant to special standards, and simple product testing to ensure other safety compliance. Notable features include the following:

  • single measurement range from 15.2 to 140 decibels from typical noise floor to maximum level, A-weighted;
  • integrated GPS for time and location;
  • colour LCD with a bright, clean layout, with important information shown with a clear indication of measurement status with colour header;
  • measurement-status light ring, visible from any angle;
  • built-in Li-Ion battery for more than 14 hours of operation;
  • sixteen gigabytes of built-in storage for measurements and annotations; and
  • integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy for connection to mobile and PC apps.

The B&K 2245 sound-level meter works for applications in many industries. Durham Instruments recommends it for use in general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.
