The Type 4448 noise dosimeter by Brüel & Kjær

Durham Instruments supplies many solutions by Brüel & Kjær to Canadian businesses, including its Type 4448 noise dosimeter – a shoulder-mounted, cable-free, personal device with a simple two-button operation, an informative LCD display, and an automatic calibration function. For dangerous work scenarios, an ATEX-approved model is available in addition to the standard. Users can get several working days of measurement out of this unit, through its built-in memory and rechargeable battery.

With interchangeable mounting clips

The Type 4448 noise dosimeter works for a broad range of applications in many industries, and Durham Instruments deems it suitable for use in general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

Among the uses for this noise dosimeter are assessment of workplace noise exposure, occupational noise evaluation for safety, selection of hearing protection, and as a daily “noise watchdog”. The Type 4448 can measure LAeq and LCeq simultaneously and uses the Noise Reduction Rating, Single Number Rating, and/or High, Middle, Low rating method to select the appropriate hearing protection from measured information.

This instrument also has an LCD display that clearly shows remaining battery and memory capacity, plus key parameters during measurement. The Type 4448 enables review of information from the last measurement. By measuring all relevant noise parameters at the same time, it eliminates the need to conduct setup tasks, while the interchangeable mounting clips offer the best fit for the activity and clothes. The unlicensed PC software Protector is available to set up Type 4448, download data after measurement, and calculate personal noise exposure.

Other capabilities of the Type 4448 include keys and display lock function, LED warning alarm for dangerous noise levels, 180 hours of logging storage, peak counting (in excess of 125, 137, and 140 decibels), preset measurement time of up to 12 hours, and rechargeable NiMH battery for up to 28 hours of operational time.

Multiple-unit kits are also available, each of which holds up to ten dosimeters and accessories, to simplify noise-exposure assessment for multiple users.
