The Brüel & Kjær HBK 2255 sound-level meter

Durham Instruments now carries the Brüel & Kjær HBK 2255 sound-level meter, which is built specifically for measuring building acoustics. This device is all that is required for applications like airborne, impact, and façade sound-insulation testing, when combined with HBK’s architectural sound sources, from measurement to final report.

Most suitable for real-world building sites, where dust and debris are more common than in functioning elevators, the HBK 2255 is a lightweight, robust tool.

Mobile or PC app

This instrument can measure everything necessary for sound insulation, from 1/1- or 1/3-octave band-level measurements to reverberation time measurements with interrupted or impulsive noise signals. Other relevant scenarios include calculation of sound-insulation results according to national and international standards, detailed analysis of sound-insulation measurement (including manual adjustment of measured information for “what if” analysis), and preparation of sound-insulation test reports according to standards. Durham Instruments recommends the HBK 2255 for use in general manufacturing, education, and research and development.

Users get wireless remote control and full workflow support by connecting the Building Acoustics Partner app, available for both mobile devices and PCs. This app also provides complete freedom to adapt to conditions onsite and makes analysis and reporting simpler.

The mobile version of Building Acoustics Partner adds high levels of control and efficiency to sound-insulation measurement. Measurement planning and workflow automation help to make sure no measurement position is neglected, and easy measurement reuse between partitions helps to minimize the total number of measurements. Integrated wireless in the meter and power amplifier enables full remote control, with no need to run cables under doors, and results are automatically calculated, which allows confirmation of compliance with project targets.

The Building Acoustics Partner PC app is designed for analyzing measurement information and creating reports back in the office – and doing so with high efficiency, with maximum insight and confidence in the data. Users can see measurement info in graphic or tabular form, with level-measurement data that enables fast, easy comparison of source room, receiving room, and background noise levels, plus the variability between positions of the same measurement type.
