The 2245-N sound-level meter by B&K

Durham Instruments teams up with Brüel & Kjær to supply many great measurement solutions, like the B&K 2245-N sound-level meter, or SLM – a robust, waterproof, and dust-resistant device that is designed for work environments with grit, grime, or inclement weather. It helps users comply with provincial guidelines for noise exposure.

Easy to connect to a Smartphone via Wi-Fi, the B&K 2245-N SLM enables operation from any convenient remote location away from the sound field with an app control interface.

Noise Partner app comes pre-installed

This sound-level meter is a versatile device that meets the IP55 standard and can be used for applications in various industries. Among the occupational tasks and scenarios that benefit from this solution: checking sound-pressure levels (to ensure fire alarms meet regulations, for example); broadband measurement that requires instruments that meet specific standards; and simple product testing to confirm other safety compliance.

Each Canadian province has a distinct set of criteria for occupational noise levels to prevent noise-induced hearing loss in workers. Ontario has a maximum-exposure limit of 85 dbA, for instance, and British Columbia has a daily limit of 85 dbA and a peak limit of 140 dbC. These limits vary with the amount of time exposed to extreme noise in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The B&K 2245-N keeps facilities aware of sound levels to remain below these limits.

The Noise Partner app comes pre-installed on this SLM. This app requires little training and is designed for simple broadband measurement, general-purpose sound-pressure-level measurement, or basic occupational, product, or environmental noise measurement. Other major features of this instrument:

  • Built-in Li-Ion battery.
  • Colour LDC with bright, clean layout.
  • Integrated GPS for time and location.
  • Integrated Wi-Fi Bluetooth Low Energy.
  • Measurement-status light ring.
  • Single measurement range from 15.2 to 140 decibels, from typical noise floor to maximum level, A-weighted.
  • 16 gigabytes of built-in storage for measurement and annotation.

Among the many sectors for which Durham Instruments deems the 2245-N suitable are general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.
