Aluminized steel is one tough alloy that can stand the heat, even in the kitchen.

Officially known as ASTM-A463, aluminized steel combines anti-corrosion excellence aluminum provides with the bonus of the strength of steel. Heat is also a treat for aluminized steel because of its chemical and mechanical properties designed to tolerate significantly high service temperatures.

From small and large home appliances, to the cookware in the cupboard, aluminized steel is a part of the typical household family. Aluminized steel is also an important member of commercial and industrial markets.

Aluminum siding, corrugated roofs, dryers, exhaust systems, heaters and ovens are only a handful of the high temperature applications aluminized steel is called upon to perform.

Here are five more attributes excellent industrial grade aluminized steel will have in common:

Aluminized steel is a beast when it comes to heat

Heat and oxidation is no match for aluminized steel type 1 because it withstands temperatures of up to 482°C (900°F) without discolouration and stays strong and steady at temperatures of 677°C (1250°F).

Aluminized steel also likes to shine in the spotlight

When exposed to temperatures of 482°C (900°F) and below, aluminized steel type 1 shines in the department of heat reflectivity, reflecting up to 80% radiant heat that strikes the aluminized steel.

Reflective roofs are an excellent example benefitting from heat reflectivity since it reduces cooling energy bills for buildings during the summer or in tropical climates.

Aluminized steel gets away with double-dipping

Aluminized steel goes through a hot-dip process with a coating of Si-Al (silicon-aluminum) on both sides. The result? A highly soft, satin-like finish produced at a lower cost than steel.

Two types, two purposes

Aluminized steel type 1 is based with a silicon-aluminum alloy coating, which is a prime chemical element combo defense against applications involving heat and corrosion.

Aluminized steel type 2 is manufactured with 100% aluminum coating primed to resist atmospheric corrosion.

Hands down, the automotive sector drives toward aluminized steel use

Aluminized steel puts the breaks on absorbing atmospheric, muffler condensate and salt spray types of corrosion far superior than galvanized steel.

Car mufflers take a beating on the outside with water, mud, snow melting chemicals, while exposed to concentrated heat on the inside; with aluminized steel type 1, a car muffler has a fighting chance for a long service life, to not overheat and to remain corrosion-free.
