Bergen offers several types of cable construction.

For more than three-quarters of a century, Bergen Cable has supplied North America’s strongest cable assembly solutions. The company’s wide variety of clients has a range of different needs from these products. This is why Bergen provides its goods in many different construction styles.

With this diversity of cable styles, the Bergen customer base knows it can trust the company for something to suit virtually any application.

The four basic styles

Bergen Cable supplies cable assembly solutions with products made out of different materials, since different industrial applications need varying levels of strength and resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Stainless steel and galvanized carbon steel are the two most frequently used types. Galvanized carbon steel is ideal for applications that need high strength, but corrosion resistance is not a high priority; it is less expensive than stainless steel and has a zinc coating that protects it from corrosive elements.

For applications in which corrosion is a strong factor and the higher cost is justified, Bergen recommends using stainless steel product. The company most commonly uses type 302 stainless steel, which is 18 per cent chromium and eight per cent nickel alloy. Many customers choose type 302 because of its high strength and corrosion resistance. Also available is type 305, recommended for non-magnetic properties.

Bergen supplies the following four types of construction styles for cable assembly solutions:

  • 1 x 7 – This style of cable provides the least stretch; larger diameters come with relative stiffness, while smaller diameters have the stiffest construction.
  • 1 x 19 – This fairly flexible type of cable has a smooth exterior that resists compressive forces. The cables with diameters greater than 3/32 of an inch have the strongest construction.
  • 7 x 7 – Bergen recommends this style for use in general-purpose construction because of its strength and high flexibility; it is especially useful over pulleys. Durability and abrasion resistance are added advantages.
  • 7 x 19 – The strongest, most flexible, and most stretchable product type Bergen has to offer. It is especially recommended for pulleys.
