The Model 1100 turbine flow meter by Badger Meter

Badger Meter manufactures many measurement devices that are available to Canadian businesses through Durham Instruments. One example is the Model 1100 industrial turbine flow meter. This instrument is designed to withstand the challenges of extremely rigorous flow-measurement applications, especially those in the oil and gas industry.

The Model 1100 was initially created for the secondary oil-recovery market. It remains the perfect industrial turbine flow meter for liquid-flow measurement on or off the oilfield.

Rugged stainless steel housing

This instrument includes a rugged 316 stainless steel housing and rotor-support assemblies, a CD4MCU stainless steel rotor, and an abrasive-resistant tungsten-carbide rotor shaft and journal bearings. It maintains accuracy and mechanical integrity when measuring the corrosive, abrasive liquids that are common in oilfield water flood projects, and it meets a wider range of measurement requirements when paired with a Blancett flow monitor.

When liquid enters the Model 1100, it passes through the inlet flow straightener, which decreases its turbulent flow pattern and improves the fluid’s velocity profile. Then the fluid passes through the turbine and causes it to rotate at a speed proportional to the fluid velocity. An AC voltage pulse is generated in the pickup coil as each turbine blade passes through the magnetic field at the transducer base. The pulses create an output frequency proportional to the volumetric flow through the meter.

Easy to install, this industrial turbine flow meter can operate in any orientation when the flow-direction arrow is aligned in the same direction as the actual line flow. Badger meter recommends installing the Model 1100 with a minimum of ten diameters upstream straight pipe length and five diameters downstream straight pipe length.

Other notable features: accurate and repeatable flow measurement in ranges from 20 to 171,000 barrels per day; availability in NPT, BSP, Victaulic, flange, or hose barbed end connections; and NIST traceable calibration.

The Model 1100 is ideal for numerous applications, including pipelines, production/injection fields, in-situ mining, and offshore facilities. Durham Instruments deems it also suitable for use in aerospace, food processing, forestry, the medical field, the military, power generation, and transportation.
