Alps Welding fabricates a variety of pressure vessels, and has developed a stringent quality assurance program to meet industry requirements and customer specifications. As a result, it has been audited and accredited as an ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 fabricator.

The ASME standards regarding boilers and pressure vessels aim to enhance public safety as well as technological advancement. ASME Section VIII standards relate to the design, fabrication, inspection, testing and certification of pressure vessels.

ASME standards

ASME standards for boilers and pressure vessels were first issued in 1914. The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) has grown over the years to include 31 books and 17,000 pages. It covers everything from residential boilers to transport tanks and nuclear reactor components. The code is kept up to date by nearly 1,000 volunteer technical experts from industry, government and R&D.

Today, the code has been incorporated into law in nine Canadian provinces and 100 different countries. The standards have long been considered mandatory in industries such as petrochemical, transportation and electric power generation. As a result, meeting these standards is essential for fabricators like Alps Welding.

Alps Welding works in many different process industries, such as mining, steel making, pharmaceutical, food processing, power generation, water treatment, and oil and gas extraction and refining. The company prides itself on its manufacturing flexibility, as it can fabricate equipment to meet any need.

“Whether your requirements include sour service, low temperature service, high-tensile or hardened applications, or highly corrosive environments, we can build your equipment,” explains Dennis Dussin, the president of Alps Welding.

Division 1 identifies requirements for the materials used in the construction of pressure vessels as well as the fabrication methods, such as welding, forging and brazing. In addition, it provides mandatory and non-mandatory standards for design criteria, nondestructive examination and inspections.

Alps Welding

Alps Welding can work with a wide variety of materials, such as many grades of carbon and stainless steel, Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy and titanium. The company performs more than 100 distinct welding procedures, and has experience with a high level of NDE, as well as other inspections. As a Div. 1 fabricator, customers can have confidence in the quality of pressure vessels from Alps Welding.
