The Jewell AML MEMS inclinometer

Durham Instruments teams up with many internationally respected manufacturers to bring world-class test and measurement solutions to Canadian businesses. One of these notable producers is Jewell Instruments, which produces the AML series of analog inclinometers. Each of these models is a low-cost MEMS inclinometer that works for numerous industrial applications.

Available as standard units with 0-5-volt, 0.5-4.5-volt, or 4-20mA output options, the AML series has an IP67 rating and is waterproof up to one metre.

High shock and vibration tolerance

These analog inclinometers are versatile devices that work well in such applications as solar tracking and panel positioning, vehicle wheel alignment, industrial automation and control, radar and antenna mast alignment, platform levelling, and navigation pitch/roll measurement. Durham Instruments recommends these units for use in such industries as general manufacturing, aerospace, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

Custom ranges and output types for these MEMS instruments are also available upon customer request. Single- and dual-axis models are available as well. Other major features of the AML series include high shock and vibration tolerance and a one-metre cable whip included.

Technical specifications of these analog inclinometers include the following:

  • Resolution: 0.05 degrees
  • Zero temperature coefficient: plus or minus 0.02 degrees per degree Celsius
  • Temperature range: minus 40 to 85 degrees Celsius in operation; minus 55 to 100 degrees Celsius in storage
  • Angular range: varies from plus or minus ten to plus or minus 90 degrees
  • Hysteresis: 0.1 or 0.2 degrees
  • Zero offset tolerance: 0.56
  • Scale factor tolerance: varies from 0.7 to three per cent
  • Scale factor temperature coefficient: less than or equal to 350 parts per million per degree Celsius
  • Warm up: ½ a second
  • Time constant: 1/20 of a second
  • Electromagnetic compatibility: EN61000 and G8T17626
  • Impact resistance: 100 grams at 11 milliseconds, three times per axis (½ sinusoid)
  • Vibration resistance: ten grms at ten to 1,000 hertz
  • Weight: 90 grams
  • Power requirements: nine to 36 VDC at 60 mA
