Universal Robots UR10 cobots are easier to use in cramped spaces with AIRSKIN.

Advanced Motion & Controls Ltd. distributes the latest automation solutions, including collaborative robot arms (or “cobots”) by Universal Robots. Now, Austrian manufacturer Blue Danube Robotics has made working with UR10 cobots even easier. Blue Danube has developed a special pressure-sensitive safety skin, AIRSKIN, to allow close human-cobot collaboration in cramped environments.

With the AIRSKIN solution, workers can start, stop, or position these Universal Robots arms with nothing more than a touch of the hand or arm.

Higher safe robot speed

AIRSKIN safety skin increases the productivity of UR10 six-axis cobots by enabling a higher safe robot speed. Variations of this modular solution include elbow-to-wrist, wrist pads, and elbow pads. Blue Danube recommends AIRSKIN for several applications, such as screwdriving, pick and place, packaging and palletizing, assembly, machine tending, and quality inspection.

Available for robots and End-of-Arm Tooling, AIRSKIN is an easy, add-on solution made of sturdy and durable material developed for industrial work environments. Users can install it very quickly, by directly connecting six wires to the robot controller’s safety IOs. The benefits of this safety skin can be classified into three main categories:

  • Space. AIRSKIN is the perfect safety solution for cramped work spaces, saving space with no fence or laser scanner required.
  • Speed. This product allows users to increase the safe speed of a cobot; speeds of up to 800 millimetres per second are possible for collaborative applications.
  • Safety. AIRSKIN complies with the highest safety standards, such as ISO 13849 (PLe), IEC 62061 (SIL3), and ISO/TS 15066. The autonomous pads constantly run self-diagnosis to keep functional safety at the highest level, while making risk assessment quicker and easier.
