Company founder Jacques Chevrier

Chevrier Instruments Inc. remains a leading supplier of test and measurement solutions for workplace use in Canada, with an unmatched lineup of innovative devices for many applications. The company offers a range that includes thermometers, gauges, humidity instruments, and hygrometers from producers like KIMO, Fluke, Rotronic, Sauermann, TSI, and Kessler. Even after 46 years of success, Chevrier continues to operate as a family business – founded by the late Jacques Chevrier.

Three generations of family

It all started when Jacques Chevrier, a young Quebec native, had just completed his commerce studies at the University of Ottawa in the early 1950s. He then went on the road as a sales representative, which led him to eventual success as the sole Quebec representative for Baker Instruments – a Montreal-based organization that distributed innovative industrial measurement solutions in Ontario in the late 1960s.

During his stint at Baker, Chevrier met Pierre Ménard, who was a professor of instrumentation. Ménard taught him about calibration and repair of measuring instruments in full detail, and Chevrier gained the self-assurance from this new education to take a great career risk. Chevrier founded his own new distribution company in 1975, with help from his own wife, Madeleine, as well as Ménard.

The new company was incorporated in its third year of business, becoming known as La Cie. J. Chevrier Instruments Inc. As this firm continued to expand, Jacques Chevrier hired his sons, Pierre and Denis, to repair manometers as they continued their education. Younger brother Marc also joined the company after he graduated from business school. By the end of 2011, the company had hired Denis’ daughter, Catherine – meaning that it now employed three generations of the Chevrier family.

Although Jacques Chevrier passed away in 2015, his legacy survives in the distribution company that bears his name. As Marc Chevrier now serves as the company’s general manager and Denis Chevrier as its technical director, the family tradition also continues. All this time, Chevrier has clung to its highest priority – providing top measurement innovation, service, and technical support via skilled, cordial personnel.
