The AR1000 laser distance meter by Acuity.

Acuity Laser Measurement makes world-class measuring sensors that Canadian businesses acquire easily from Durham Instruments. A key example is the AR1000 industrial laser distance meter. This versatile tool is ideal for many applications – common ones being crane and hoist tasks, position measurement, and monitoring fill levels of bulk material.

The AR1000 is a unique instrument that employs phase shift comparison measurement principles of light to gauge distances of up to 30 metres (m) accurately.

Good for various industries

Also suitable for bridge cranes and steel shape profiling, this industrial laser distance meter suits various industries. Durham Instruments deems it suitable for general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power, transportation, and research and development.

The AR1000 can measure ranges as far as 150 m when reflective target boards are added. It offers a typical speed of six hertz, but 50-hertz samplings are possible with white targets at close ranges with small target movements. The instrument is designed for work environments with NEMA-4, IP65 enclosure ratings, which allows direct rinsing with water. Standard data outputs are serial RS232, RS422 (optional), and current loop 4-20 mA signals.

The industrial laser distance meter measures indoor and outdoor distances, although its abilities may be limited with very dark targets, while steam, fog, or smoke may obstruct signals. A major advantage is that the AR1000 can measure glowing steel of up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. A special AR1000H model with an internal heater is available; this operates in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius, and users can configure the heater cycling through the serial interface.

Among the specifications of the AR1000 laser distance meter: span from one to 30 m; accuracy of plus or minus three millimetres (mm); resolution of one mm; laser spot of one mm, with 0.6 mrad divergence; reproducibility greater than or equal to half a mm; and weight of 760 grams. Its laser class is Class 2, compliant with 21 CFR 1040.10 with Laser Notice 50, IEC/EN60825-1:2001, and it has a 650-nanometre, one-megawatt visible RED laser.
