Process Heaters offers both RTDs and thermocouples.

For all of their heating-related needs – from heaters and furnaces to pressure transducers, power controls, and electrical control panels – businesses trust Process Heaters. This Toronto-based distributor offers every kind of heating product and accessory available, keeping companies and their workers warm in the tough Canadian winter months while also providing products for specific work tasks.

One of these products from Process Heaters is temperature sensors, which measure temperatures for industrial applications.

Two main types

Many different technologies are used for temperature sensing, and one of the most common is infrared technology. But infrared is most feasible in cases in which contact with the heated surface is impossible. Other types of sensors are more suited for applications in which contact with the hot surface is acceptable.

Process Heaters distributes two types of non-infrared temperature sensors: resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) and thermocouples. RTDs are useful for temperatures less than 500 degrees Celsius, while thermocouples usually have a range stretching above 2,000 degrees. But RTDs are much more accurate and stable over time, making them preferable for certain industrial applications.

Four kinds of RTDs are available from Process Heaters:

  • Bayonet-style. Quick snap upon connection.
  • Meat probe. Its sharp probe can detect temperatures inside animal carcasses.
  • RTD assemblies. Capable of even higher accuracy.
  • Sanitary RTDs. Designed specifically for the food and pharmaceutical sectors.

The company also offers 22 kinds of thermocouples, including:

  • Melt bolt. Reads melt temperatures with same process connection as pressure transducers.
  • Adjustable-depth melt bolt. Allows adjustable insertion length.
  • Adjustable-length plastic. Adjustable for depth.
  • Base metal thermocouple elements. Less costly, for common applications.
  • Noble metal thermocouple elements. High temperature readings.
  • Magnet. Self-attachable to magnetic surfaces.
  • Mineral-insulated. High temperature readings and field conforming.
  • Multipoint. Allows stepped reading along its length.
  • Open disc. Simple design for ease of lead attachment.
  • Pipe clamp. Easily connectable to pipes.
  • Process head terminal blocks and transmitters. Various configurations of ceramic terminal blocks and process transmitters.
  • Ring tongue. Easy to attach with nut and bolt.
