Festo is always innovating and coming up with automation solutions to help its customers save money and improve performance. The newest addition to the company’s lineup — the EPCO compact electrical cylinder — is designed to do just that. It is a cost-effective alternative to pneumatic drives, with all of the advantages associated with electric drive technology.
Cylinder features
Each EPCO cylinder has an electrically actuated spindle that converts the rotary motion of the motor into a linear motion of the non-rotating, plain bearing-guided piston rod. Each cylinder also features a fixed, ideally adapted motor, as well as end position cushioning to reduce noise and impact energy during homing. Available fully assembled in three sizes (16, 25 and 40), these drives offer easy cleaning and a long service life — a running performance of 10,000 km. They can be ordered with or without an encoder for closed- or open-loop operations.
An ideal pairing
EPCO cylinders are designed to ideally pair with Festo’s ultra compact CMMO-ST stepper motor controller. Called the EPCO system, this combination is part of Festo’s Optimized Motion Series and represents a lower cost alternative to electric positioning systems in simple factory automation applications.
Pre-assembled cables and software for fast online commissioning are also included in the EPCO system package. The result is a performance that rivals full servo motion at a fraction of the cost.
A global leader
Festo has earned a reputation for its innovative pneumatic and electric drive technology. The company’s lineup of individual products for industrial and process automation, in addition to its ready-to-install solutions, have made Festo a global leader in automation technology.
