broaching company

Ohio Broach has served industry since 1956.

The Ohio Broach and Machine Company has been going above and beyond customer demands since 1956. It is rare for a broaching company to last that long and stay relevant. Ohio Broach’s 63-year history attests to its unique levels of experience, industry knowledge, and knack for supplying the right solutions. These traits have helped the firm grow substantially since a Cleveland entrepreneur named Charles “Bud” Van De Motter launched it in his father’s four-car garage.

Exclusive line of broaching machines

Bud’s broaching company specialized in designing, manufacturing, and sharpening broaching tools for local clients. He soon had to expand the practice when demand rose for broaching-equipment rebuilding and contract production broaching. In the early 1960s, the firm relocated to a larger facility to accommodating its increasing scope of broaching services and machine repair.

The late 1960s brought a new milestone in the company’s history. That was when Ohio Broach launched an exclusive lineup of broaching machines. The success of this product line helped to boost the company’s already burgeoning design, sharpening, and production services even further. Rapid expansion necessitated another big move by 1974 – bringing the broaching company to a 20,000-square-foot facility in Willoughby, OH. Ohio Broach still operates out of this plant, the area of which has increased to more than 50,000 square feet.

Ohio Broach has continued to grow in other ways. The company earned ISO certification in 1998 and later upgraded it to the ISO 9001:2008 standard. With a workforce of about 35 people, Ohio Broach sells broaching services and machines to customers all around the world – a client base that reaches the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Israel, the Philippines, South Korea, and China – bringing in more than $7 million in revenue each year.
