Solenoid Valve Coils

While our portfolio covers an unsurpassed range of valves, pumps, and gear motors for industrial use at ODE Valve Canada, we offer other related products too. The lineup includes several models of solenoid valve coils. The purpose of these units is to convert electrical energy into linear motion. Customers can choose from eight-, 12-, or 14-watt variations, depending on individual applications, as well as several series of ATEX-certified coils. All of our coils are CSA-approved.

Each of these coils consists of wire, typically copper or aluminum, wound around a hollow form; this creates a magnetic field when electric current flows through the coil, accomplished in part through the ferromagnetic core that has been placed inside the unit. This ferromagnetic core is known as a “valve plunger.” As the current flows through the coil, the lines of magnetic flux turn the valve plunger into an electromagnet. The magnetic field causes the plunger to slide further up into the coil, which opens the valve body orifice or pilot orifice.

Solenoid valve coils exist for either DC or AC power, and while a coil can be produced to work with virtually any voltage possible, the most common voltages tend to range from six to 240 volts. Coils with lower voltages offer the considerable advantage of electrical safety; hobbyists frequently power low-voltage solenoid valves with wall transformers, and most smaller valves can be powered with a 12-volt supply. But power supply must always meet or exceed the solenoid’s power requirement. Heavy machinery and most other industrial applications require solenoids with 24-VDC coils.

The eight-watt solenoid valve coils we offer at ODE have PA, PET, and PPS moulding materials. Each measures 1-1/8 inches in height, 1-3/16 inches in length, and ten millimetres in width. Our 12-watt coils have PA and PET moulding materials and each measure 2-3/8 by 1-7/16 by 1-9/16 inches, with armature tubes measuring 1-29/32 inches. The 14-watt variation has EP and PA moulding materials, and each one measures 2-1/16 by 2-5/8 by 1-5/8 inches, with an armature tube of 2-5/32 inches.

We encourage all prospective customers to get in touch with us to learn more about these coils.
