Railway and Transportation Power Supplies

Polytron Devices, which is our power-supply division at Daburn Electronics & Cable, is a top source for DC-DC power supplies for the rail and transportation sectors. Unlike many of the DC-DC converters our competitors offer, these robust railway power supplies are fully compliant with strict transportation industry standards.

Our inventory of railway power supplies includes 12-, 24- and 110-volt Input DC-DC converters. These products are highly reliable choices for use with transportation and railway machinery and equipment, which provide unique challenges.

A wealth of technical advantages

These DC-DC converters for rail and transportation come in 12 different series, ranging in power from 8 to 200 watts. Single and Dual Output Voltages are available, as well as a variety of package sizes and options including quarter- and half-brick converters and miniature 1″ by 1″ by 0.39″ package compact converters, all with ultra-wide input voltage range.

Polytron’s line of transportation and railway power supplies has many important, unique technical advantages. In addition to meeting the EN50155, EN500121-3, and EN61373 standards of the European Committee for Standardization, these converters have passed all shock and vibration tests. With six-sided continuous shields and reverse polarity protection, they can maintain output voltage for as long as ten milliseconds during power outages. All of the wattages (8-200W) are available with input voltage range choices of 110 (40-160), 24 (9-36), and 48 (18-75) VDC input, and optional wall-mount designs are available.

Our transportation and railway power supplies are highly recommended for many applications in this industry, including the following:

  • Air-conditioner control systems;
  • Broadcasting systems;
  • Computer powering;
  • Fire-alarm systems;
  • LCD display boards for passenger information systems;
  • Lighting, both internal and external;
  • Personal monitors for trains;
  • Test equipment for automobile manufacturing;
  • Ticket machines; and
  • Tracking and communication systems.

In addition to these converters, Polytron offers power supplies for the medical and military sectors, as well as numerous other DC-DC converter types, AC-DC switching power modules, and linear encapsulated power modules.

For nearly half a century, Polytron Devices has been a leading designer of power supplies for many industries. To learn more about these products as well as many additional options, visit Polytron’s website.

Polytron now offers a new 60 Watt series of Railway DC/DC Converters that satisfies a Diversity of Railway Power Requirements.

12:1 Extra Wide Input Voltage

Polytron’s OFQC60 Series of DC-DC converters addresses the diverse needs of railway power systems. For example, the OFQC60 Series 60-watt quarter-brick DC-DC converter features a wide 12:1 input voltage range covering potential distribution voltages of 9-75 V DC or 14V to 160V DC, according to the EN50155 standard. The wide input range allows the OFQC60 to accommodate many different power systems within the railway environment. Additional features and characteristics include:

  • Output voltages of 5, 12, 15, 24, 28, 48 and 53V DC.
  • Isolation voltage up to 3000V AC.
  • Efficiencies up to 92 percent.
  • EN55032 compliance.
  • Protection against over current, over voltage, under voltage, short circuits and over temperature.
  • RoHS and REACH compliance with CE Mark pending.

A Wide Input Voltage Range Means More Design Flexibility

As railways add more power systems to enable train operation and provide passenger amenities, DC-DC converters must accommodate a greater number of input voltages. Polytron Devices’ OFQC60 Series of 60-W DC-DC converters boasts an extremely wide 12:1 input range so designers can use them in a variety of power systems for modern railways.
