Pilot Valves

We carry an unparalleled selection of valve products at ODE Valve Canada, including a few models of pilot valves. These are small valves that control limited-flow control feeds to separate piloted valves, which typically control high pressures or high flow feed. These valve units are recommended because each one allows a small and easily operated feed to control a far higher pressure or higher flow feed; this would necessitate a much stronger force to operate, otherwise.

A pilot valve is useful even when a solenoid is employed to operate the valve. These units are human-operated and are commonly used in emergency and SIS controls, as well as other critical applications. Users can set them up as push-to-activate or dead man’s switches. A pilot valve can also be used as an essential part of a pilot-operated relief valve (PORV), as a control pilot. PORVs are used for emergency relief during over-pressure events, such as when a tank becomes too hot and the expanding liquid raises the pressure to dangerous levels.

Our main series of pilot valves at ODE is our 31A series of three-way, direct-acting, normally closed solenoid valves. Features of this series include pipe sizes ranging from 1/8 to ¼ of an inch, an eight-watt coil, and operating pressure of up to 290 pounds per square inch. Each of these valves has a brass body, a copper shading ring, an armature tube and spring made of 300 stainless steel, and a fixed core and plunger made from 400 stainless steel. The valve has a NEMA 4 rating and comes with a CAGDIN/01 strain-relief connector, a CONDIN/02 ½-inch conduit connector, and a six-foot power cord.

We have recently introduced the 31JNX and 31JLX models of pilot valves, which have a compact design and allow optimization of circuits inside the narrow spaces in machinery. The male thread at the outlet enables direct mounting on actuator heads, which simplifies operations in assembly lines and reduces parts counts. These are three-way, normally closed valves with nickel-plated brass or stainless steel bodies.
