Mortise Deadbolts

We manufacture and supply an unsurpassed portfolio of industrial locking solutions at Capitol Industries Inc. – most of which are variations of cam locks, but some of which are specialty locks for specific needs. This includes two series of mortise deadbolts. Known for their strong security, these locks are typically found in older constructions. They are usually far more effective than are locks that attach to the outsides of door frames, as they use the strength of the frames.

A mortise lock needs a mortise – i.e., a pocket – inside the door frame to work properly. The lock bolt fits into the mortise. Each lock consists of a body that controls the opening and closing of the bolt, a strike plate that surrounds the mortise in the door frame to strengthen it, and a keyed cylinder that operates the lock. Installing mortise deadbolts is a complex undertaking that requires an intermediate knowledge of woodwork, but properly fitted units are very secure. The deadbolt is opened by key teeth connecting with levels in the lock mechanism; the large number of possible combinations makes picking the lock almost impossible.

Capitol Industries offers two models of mortise deadbolts: the 370 series, each of which has a single cylinder with a thumb turn; and the 375 series, each of which has only a deadlock with a BCD Campak. Every lock has a 25-millimetre (mm) deadbolt with a 70-mm backset. The deadbolt contains two hardened steel inserts. The Campak can fit cylinders for Sargent, Russwin & Corbin, or Falcom & Schlage. Each uses a 7185DA cylinder and a Dominion 1054F keyway, and we provide a standard 26D (chrome) finish on each lock. Each mortise deadbolt lock measures 76 mm in height and 70 mm from the front plate to the centre of the insert hole for the deadbolt.

Our staff can create locking solutions to work for any specific application. We encourage customers to contact us at any time to find out what we offer and what custom units we can make. From cam locks to mortise locks, our offering spans a broad range.
