Idler Sprockets

Idler sprockets are available from Tsubaki of Canada Ltd. We offer a wide variety of sprockets for various types of idlers including ball bearing idlers, needle bearing idlers, bronzed brushed idlers, non-metallic idlers, and set screw locking type idlers. These sprockets are available in a wide range of sizes and can be used with both roller chain and engineered class chain. When manufacturing our idler sprockets, we only use the best materials, precision machining processes, and quality bearing units. With our custom manufacturing capabilities, we can supply sprockets to suit any need.

Idler sprockets

We offer adjustable idler sprockets that can be used to guide chain around obstructions, enable reversed rotation of sprockets in contact with the outside of the chain, and provide proper chain tension when the shafting is not adjustable. These sprockets can also compensate for slack caused by chain wear, and prevent chain whipping when transmitting uneven loads. In addition, they can be used to achieve greater chain wrap around small sprockets, especially lower sprockets in vertical drives.

Idler sprockets should be mounted on the outside of the chain, in contact with the "slack" span, if possible. Inside mounted idlers can provide quitter operation, particularly when centers are short and speeds are moderately high.

Quality manufacturing

We manufacture our sprockets to precise tolerances to meet the requirements of today’s manufacturing processes. Most of our sprockets are made using top-grade carbon steel, which provides long wear life and resistance to abrasion and shock loads. We have the capability to provide a number of heat treating and finishing options such as carburizing/case hardening, plating, black oxide, and powder coating.

Company expertise

In addition to idler sprockets, we can supply a complete range of other sprocket types including large or small pitch, British Standard, wear-indicating Smart Tooth sprockets, and made-to-order solutions. The Canadian market has been relying on Tsubaki products since 1973, and we have the largest sprocket manufacturing facility in the country.
