Helicoil Thread Inserts

Among the varieties of fastening solutions that Gould Fasteners supplies in Canada is Heli-Coil thread inserts, or precision-formed thread coils of stainless steel wire, built with diamond-shape cross-sections. These unique inserts are recommended for protecting and strengthening tapped threads in any material; when users install them into tapped holes, they can provide permanent, conventional internal screw threads that can accommodate a wide range of bolts or screws.

Gould Fasteners relies on only the highest-quality manufacturers for its products, and its primary source for Heli-Coil thread inserts is Stanley Engineered Fastening, including its Spiralock brand. While these products are commonly used in the aerospace industry – particularly in engines, cockpits, tray tables, bins, seats, bathroom cabins, and guidance systems – they also benefit construction, transportation, military, telecommunications, electronics, and the automotive sector.

What makes Heli-Coil thread inserts unique among fastening products is that they match the structural integrity of metal fasteners while being lightweight. Many types of these inserts provide high strength, vibration resistance, and minimal seizing. Since their required boss is smaller than that of solid inserts, these inserts can save users significantly in in-place costs.

Insert types available from Gould Fasteners include the following:

  • Tangless inserts. Easy to install, adjust, and remove, tangless Heli-Coil inserts eliminate the need for tang breakoff, which minimizes the chances of loss. Staking, swaging, and keying in place are absent, which lessens stress on the parent material.
  • Pipe thread inserts. These inserts are larger than the tapped hole before installation. They offer a strong, leak-proof joint because their outward force keeps threading in place permanently.
  • Spark-plug inserts. Spark plug inserts have serrated top coils that are staked into parent material, making them resistant to the high temperatures involved with spark-plug ports.
  • Oversize inserts and twinserts. Recommended for correcting tapped holes that have been either stripped or tapped with an erroneous diameter. Oversize inserts have larger-than-normal wire cross-sections; twinserts are built for installation inside other inserts.

Gould Fasteners has been helping clients find great fastening solutions since 1979. Contact the Gould Fasteners team for a quick quotation or to learn more about inserts.
