Heat Sinks

The diverse range of products available from Gould Fasteners includes various heat sinks for virtually every application. These devices are essential for the performance of microelectronics packaging, as thermal interface material is necessary to dissipate heat. Gould Fasteners supplies a wide selection of heat sinks of various designs from top manufacturers like Aavid Thermalloy and Thermshield.

Heat sinks are passive heat exchangers that transfer heat from mechanical or electronic devices to air, a liquid coolant, or another fluid medium. In this way, the heat is dissipated away from the devices in order to maintain their temperatures at desired levels. A common application is computers, in which they cool central processing units and graphics processors; they also moderate the temperatures of power transistors, lasers, and light-emitting diodes.

Gould Fasteners offers stamped, extruded, and injection-moulded varieties of heat sinks, as well as folded fin heat sinks constructed with thermally conductive thermoplastics and aluminum fins. These sinks have base structures that can be injection-moulded into three-dimensional shapes that conform to electronic layouts. While copper and aluminum are the most common materials used to build heat sinks, Gould Fasteners also carries those made out of flexible elastomers, which require no secondary interfaces as they conform tightly to components. Recommended for motors, capacitors, and multi-chip applications, elastomer heat sinks result in high thermal efficiency and cost savings.

Another type available is the high fin density heat sink, which provides high-performance cooling and helps to overcome high heat flux, making it perfect for use in constrained areas. Fin styles include zipper, folded, and stamped.

As with all of its products, Gould Fasteners pre-inspects a statistical quantity of its heat sinks at its Mississauga, Ont. facility before shipping to customers, to reduce the chances of defect and flaws. The company also offers customized bar-coded labels so that customers’ personnel do not have to enter data manually.

Founded in 1979, Gould Fasteners has grown into a major supplier of essential fastening products for a number of industries, especially the military and telecommunications. Contact the Gould Fasteners team for fast quotes or just to learn more about these products.
