Half Mortise Locks

Capitol Industries Inc. offers a portfolio of security solutions unlike any other. More than 80 per cent of our lineup consists of cam locks, but a lot of specialty options are available for specific applications. For example, we carry three models of half mortise locks. This unit is available with a spring latch, a heavy-duty spring latch, or a deadbolt, but the basic template is the same for each option.

Half mortise locks are most frequently used for doors, desks, drawers, or boxes. They are specialty locks based on a traditional style that was commonly installed in furniture from the 18th to the 20th Centuries and offer a semi-concealed appearance, with the keyhole being all that is seen on the exterior of the furniture or door. Interiors show a simple flush plate. The user mounts the lock just below the surface of the door or drawer, with the back side of the lock sitting flush with the surface.

Each of the half mortise locks available from Capitol comes with an N54G brass milled key, up to 230 combinations, and five brass disc tumblers. The locks can be keyed alike, keyed different, or master keyed. A brass finish is standard, but other types of finishing are available on request. The model with the heavy-duty spring latch comes with a solid brass bolt, while the other two locks have zinc (brass plated) bolts.

Every one of these locks has similar dimensions, except for the latch travel. The barrel measures 19 millimetres (mm) in length and 22 mm in diameter, while the full length including the barrel and backplate totals 27 mm. Each backplate measures 38 mm in height and 51 mm in width, and the distance from the left and right bolt holes equals 41 mm. The latch travel measures five mm on the spring-latch model, six mm on the heavy-duty spring-latch version, and eight mm on the deadbolt lock.
