At Capitol Industries Inc., we manufacture and supply locking products and systems for a variety of industrial functions. The lineup includes filing cabinet locks, which are specialty locks for keeping filing cabinets secure. We make these locks with either round or rectangular bolts and in two different series: the 4700 series measures 44 millimetres (mm) in length, while the 4701 series has a total lock length of 51 mm.

Filing cabinets are typically used in office environments to store paper documents in file folders in drawers. In some contexts, such documents might contain sensitive, classified, or otherwise important information that needs to be kept secure from outsiders, competitors, or other parties that may abuse or take advantage of these data. So certain organizations are wise to invest in cabinet locks to keep such documents private.

Many filing cabinets incorporate keyed locks to prevent unauthorized access to the documents being stored. Typically, they use two kinds of locks; either a cam lock, which is activated by a key that rotates the lock, or a plunger lock, which is opened with a key, but closed by depressing the lock body. Capitol Industries supplies specialty filing cabinet locks that require keys, although cam locks are our company’s main product offering, representing about 80 per cent of our product line.

These filing cabinet locks use N54G brass milled keys with up to 200 combinations and five brass pins; they can be keyed to Capitol’s disc-tumbler lock combinations. Keyed Alike and Different options are available. The standard finish for these locks is nickel, but we can provide other finishing options upon request. Bolts come in zinc (brass plate); numbering is key blank standard, with shell upon request.

Both the 4700 and 4701 series locks measure 20 mm in height and 13 mm in width. The 4700 lock measures 22 mm from the key end to the bolt, while the 4701 version measures 29 mm from the key end to the bolt. Poly bagged models are also available with both series.
