Alumina Ceramic Products

Astro Met, Inc. manufactures alumina for advanced ceramic products. We use these materials to custom make products to meet your needs. We have more than 50 years of experience. We have worked with government agencies and private businesses. Representatives from our advanced ceramics division would be happy to discuss your specific needs and how our materials can meet them.

Product lines

We produce two types of alumina. AmAIOx 68 is a high purity 99.8 per cent aluminum oxide ceramic. It is developed and optimized for maximum wear and corrosion resistance. It is high density and has a diamond-like hardness. It has a fine grain structure and superior mechanical strength. It has a bulk density of 3.93 g/cm3. It has a flexural strength of 382 MPa. It has a Vickers hardness of 2017. Grains are four microns. It can be used in temperatures as high as 1700°C when there is no load.

AmAIOx 87 is 99.95 per cent alumina. It is used in speciality applications that require a material of high purity. It has an unusually small grain size. This enables extremely tight tolerances and surface finishes. It has a bulk density of 3.97 g/cm3. It has a flexural strength of 70 KPSI (482 MPa). It has a Vickers Hardness of 2000.  Its grains are two microns.

Industries served

Our alumina can be used in virtually every industry including: chemical processing, metal fabrication and automotive. Our material’s also used in the aerospace, food processing and medical industries. Our company has also served government agencies, including NASA.

Manufacturing process

We use AmAIOx 68 to produce both as-fired and precision machined ceramic components. We use our alumina materials to produce components to your requirements in both prototype and production quantities.

Manufacturers

Our company also distributes Macor, a machinable glass ceramic, made by Corning Inc. This ceramic material is available in rod, bar and sheet stock shapes. It can also be used to make customized precision parts.
