Diaphragm pumps are positive-displacement pumps that combine the reciprocating action of rubber, thermoplastic, or Teflon diaphragms with suitable valves on the sides to pump liquids. When the volume of the pump chamber increases, the pressure decreases and liquid is drawn in; the fluid is then forced out when the pressure increases from the decreased volume. An AODD pump uses compressed air as the power source and has two diaphragms.
