Advanced Ceramics

Astro Met, Inc. manufactures  materials to meet the most sophisticated advanced ceramic needs. Our alumina and zirconia materials are extremely resistant to wear and corrosion. This saves you money. We have more than 50 years of experience. We have worked with government agencies and private businesses. Representatives from our advanced ceramics division would be happy to discuss your specific needs and how our materials can meet them.

Product lines

We specialize in making advanced ceramic products that meet customer specifications and save money. We produce four different materials. Two are aluminum and two are zirconium.

Our alumina materials are AmAIOx 68 and AmAIOx 87. AmAIOx 68 is a high purity 99.8 per cent aluminum oxide ceramic. It is developed for maximum wear and corrosion resistance. Fine grain structure gives it superior mechanical strength. AmAIOx 87 is 99.95 per cent alumina. Its unusually small grain size enables extremely tight tolerances and surface finishes.

We have two zirconia materials: AmZirOx 86 and ZTA-96 (also known as Y-TZP). AmZirOx 86 is a zirconia yttria ceramic l. It is made from 95 per cent zirconia and 5 per cent yttria. Transformation toughening allows it to absorb energy that would make most ceramics fail. ZTA-96 zirconia toughened alumina combines the toughness and strength of AmZirOx 86 with the wear resistance of AmAIOx 68. ZTA-96 is 85 per cent alumina and 15 per cent zirconia. It is highly resistant to wear and corrosion remains stable in high temperatures and has superior mechanical strength.

Industries served

We can meet the advanced ceramic needs of any industry, including: chemical processing, metal fabrication and automotive. Our materials are also used in the aerospace, food processing and medical industries. We have served government agencies, including NASA.

Manufacturing process

We can make components in both prototype and production quantities in all shapes and sizes to precision tolerances and finishes.

Manufacturers

Our company also distributes Macor, a machinable glass ceramic, made by Corning Inc. This ceramic material is available in rod, bar and sheet stock shapes. It can also be used to make customized precision parts.
