Acetal is a strong, stiff and tough plastic that absorbs little moisture and outperforms nylon four to one in humid environments. Acetal has a good resistance to organic solvents, but not to strong acids and bases. Acetal has a low-coefficient of friction and good bearing characteristics. It also has high dielectric strength and can be used in many electrical applications. Acetal products can be used in continuous temperatures of up to 82ºC and in intermittent temperatures of up to 93ºC. Most acetals are produced from resin that is FDA-approved for contact with food.
