The Hougen HMD130 ultra low-profile magnetic drill

Hougen Manufacturing invented the portable magnetic drill press, and it still manufactures a wide variety of innovative industrial equipment, available in Canada from Dobco Equipment Ltd. A key example is the HMD130 ultra low-profile magnetic drill, a right-angle drill that is distinguished by both its light weight and its large capacity.

The unique design makes this Hougen tool the ideal choice for applications that require a powerful drilling solution in a compact package.

Pilot light for visibility

The HMD130 has a powerful eight-amp, 115-volt motor that cuts through one-inch holes up to 1-3/8 inches in diameter. The high torque gearing allows long-lasting power, while its patented quill feed arbour enables smooth cutting with little vibration and minimal maintenance. The RotaLoc Plus annular cutters offer a bayonet-style twist lock shank for fast cutter changes, with no need for extra tools for installation or removal.

Other major features of this ultra low-profile magnetic drilling tool from Dobco: carrying case included; carrying handle; feed handle that switches easily from side to side; lift-detector safety system; pilot light for visibility; positive slug ejection; ratchet that can substitute for feed handle; rear-mounted controls; and weight of only 10.8 kilograms (kg).

This drill is available with a 25-millimetre (mm) base plate with a dead lift rating of 982 kg and a drill-point breakaway limit of 333 kg. Hougen also provides a 9½-mm plate with a 544-kg dead lift rating and a 227-kg breakaway limit. The HMD130 magnetic drill is ideal for such tasks as general fabrication, truck-frame modification, plant maintenance, and onsite assembly and installation.

The HMD130 drill also features a no-adjustment safety switch, which shuts down the drill motor when it detects lifting of the magnetic base, to ensure a safe work environment. The LED indicator monitors this sensor and alerts if the switch is not engages. A two-stage power-on switch halts drill rotation unless the magnet is engaged, and safety circuitry keeps the drill motor off after restoration of power until someone presses the start button.

Trust this drill for fast, efficient, powerful hole-making in small spaces.
